About this deal

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. dear dolly is made up of snippets from dolly alderton's agony aunt column in the sunday times, so it’s the perfect, low-maintenance book that you can dip in and out of whenever you have 5 minutes. I wish this book was longer, and would have loved to read her thoughts on more specific and nuanced topics, since even topics that didn't directly relate to me in this book allowed for her to impart some universal wisdom; however I understand these were taken from her Sunday Times column and can only appeal to so niche an audience.

She puts so much thought and effort into her answers and some of the problems she deals with are SO relatable.Although I didn't love Everything I Know About Love at the time I read it (and have already reached the conclusion that it was a matter of right book-wrong time), I really like Dolly's writing. In fact, it’s not ‘pointless drivel’ when it is someone’s experience and Dolly treats these problems with respect, warmth and wit, which is exactly the type of writing I enjoy. i think this is one of the most annotated books in my collection now, and i know i’ll be referring back to it countless times. The questions are divided up into love, friendship, family, sex, relationships and what is termed ‘body and soul’ – appearance and drinking are just some of the questions covered.

having loved dolly’s previous works, particularly ‘everything i know about love’ (which is an all time favourite of mine), i was excited to devour more of her words of wisdom. even the advice columns that weren’t relevant to me were engaging and insightful, and her moral perspectives and personal ethics very much aligned with my own. this book is made up of collected advice from dolly's sunday times agony aunt column, and as expected, each response blends empathy, humour and emotionally intelligent wisdom in a way that is so quintessentially dolly: comforting, light and reminiscent of having a long coffee with an old friend. Feel bad giving this two stars because I know it’s more meant for people in their 30s and 40s not me.While none of the questions selected for this book was really compatible with my life right now, I still found reading her replies empathetic and friendly.

I thought this was Dolly talking about her love life and friendship but turns at to be about her Agony aunt work. A compendium of good advice from her Sunday Times columns, Dear Dolly is Dolly Alderton at her wise, warm and witty best. Since early 2020, Dolly Alderton has been sharing her wisdom, warmth and wit with the countless people who have written in to her Dear Dolly agony aunt column in The Sunday Times Style . Sent pictures of various pages to my friends and I know I’ll be referring back to it at times of need. Her first book Everything I Know About Love became a top five Sunday Times bestseller in its first week of publication and won a National Book Award for Autobiography of the Year. She is a columnist for The Sunday Times Style and has also written for GQ, Red, Marie Claire and Grazia. She is the author of two Sunday Times bestselling works of non-fiction: Everything I Know About Love , which won a National Book Award (UK) for Autobiography of the Year and was made into a BBC One TV Series, and Dear Dolly , a collection of her agony aunt columns from The Sunday Times Style magazine. Her writing is funny but also poignant and actually gives time to problems individuals have that may otherwise be dismissed as ‘pointless drivel’.

if you just want something not to serious and something that feels like a gossip session with a friend; this would be an excellent choice. This book is a collection of her newspaper columns from the UK newspaper The Sunday Times, so UK readers may have read these before. Dolly Alderton at her wise, warm and witty best’ RedSince early 2020, Dolly Alderton has been sharing her wisdom, warmth and wit with the countless people who have written in to her Dear Dolly agony aunt column in The Sunday Times Style. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously.Dolly’s first book ( everything I know about love)blew me away, her second fictional book ( Ghosts) was something I had to grind my way through it and this one is not great!
