About this deal

The RTX 4080 FE required biasing the spine farther towards the CPU side, reducing the cooler clearance significantly.

So of course you have to use an mITX mainboard and the power supply unit can only be an SFX/SFX-L model with a maximum length of 130 mm. Because of this, we recommend removing the door entirely any time you build or do maintenance that’s more involved than just plugging something in. Maximum thickness has some caveats, and depends on both the spine position and the height of the GPU. The central spine runs from front-to-back inside the case and can be adjusted left to right by 30mm to allow for more room either on the GPU or CPU side. The movable spine means that GPU and CPU cooler clearances are variable based on spine position, enabling sacrificing space for one to give to the other.

The Fractal Terra might not suit every PC spec but it's a very good-looking, compact mini-ITX case that will support high-end hardware and looks like the ideal option for a living room media PC, or any other use you can think of. The main discussion point in the video is that mini-ITX cases are impossible to review in a fully standardized way without shorting some of the cases. That’s despite exposing the fans more directly to the outside of the case, so this just proves the slats conflict. That’s a big change from the older super toned-down Define series, and it’s revitalized the company in the DIY market. The entire left side of the case is devoted to the graphics card, so GPUs up to 322mm long will fit. The manual is mostly good: It shows example configurations and major component clearances, although we don’t like its representation of how tightly folded the GPU power cable is. These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc. Unfortunately some of the longest GPUs on the market right now will still encounter clearance issues as the Asus RTX 4090 Tuf Edition was simply too long to fit.

While it’s certainly not the company’s first try at ITX – with cases like the Era ITX, Core 500, and Node 202 before it – the Terra has a higher level of polish consistent with Fractal’s more recent ATX releases like the Torrent and the North. You can select from three unique anodised aluminium variations of the Terra, enhancing and harmonising with your setup. Grab a GN15 Large Anti-Static Modmat to celebrate our 15th Anniversary and for a high-quality PC building work surface. But maybe the sandwiched design like in the Terra is fundamentally flawed because the heat seems to be concentrating right between where the GPU and CPU are placed, and there's nothing available to increase airflow right in that area.Different height (up to 145mm) and width GPUs (up to 72mm) are supported depending on the choice of CPU heatsink. Fractal obviously drew inspiration from this case, also a sandwich style, but with a more traditional mesh panel. With the chassis configured like this, I was easily able to fit a 4080 Founders Edition in the GPU chamber. This means that CPU coolers between a maximum of 48 and 77 mm are possible, depending on the size of your graphics card.

So that you don't experience any nasty surprises, you should take a look at the manual that shows the respective combinations and check whether you can install your hardware. The Terra is less expensive and smaller, but won’t support liquid cooling or as long of a GPU as the EVO.

I thought for certain that the temps in the Terra would be much worse than the other SFF enclosures I’ve reviewed recently. For cooling, the Terra doesn’t come with any fans, and the manual only shows an optional step for mounting a single 120mm fan in the bottom under the PSU -- but that’s not possible with an SFX-L PSU. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. To determine how much the side panels are restricting air, we next tested with the side doors fully opened: Here, the P-Cores dropped by 3 degrees, so that should be considered our best possible outcome with this setup. While the other half would flow across the GPU, you wouldn’t really see any meaningful temperature differences, plus you would lose a large portion of the cable management space this case provides.
