I have a complicated relationship with the now-memetic phrase βDisney Adult.β I will deny that I am a Disney Adult and then I will make sure to get to the parks just as they open. I will say that Iβm a Disney Adult and then accidentally start a trading pin collection. I say that I am not a Disney Adult, but somehow I am always planning my next trip, if only in my mind.

Fantastic book, and a fantastic companion to a fantastic documentary series. I cannot say βfantasticβ enough. Keen observers will notice intricate details throughout the Disney parks, including names emblazoned on the building windows lining Main Street, U.S.A. Designed as calling cards for fictionalized shopkeepers, these names belong to the real life βall-starsβ who helped make Disneyβs theme parks a reality. They are the opening credits to a show like no other. The people listed on these windows are skilled actors, artists, business leaders, Imagineers, songwriters, and more. With their imagination and sharp skills, each person has made an important contribution to The Walt Disney Company. In fact, many have also received the impressive Disney Legends award.

The Imagineering Storyβ Book Celebrates Creativity REVIEW: βThe Imagineering Storyβ Book Celebrates Creativity
THINK of Disney and you may conjure up images of sometimes saccharine animated films and enchantingly unreal theme parks. What probably doesnβt spring to mind is a huge research organisation. Yet the firmβs science and technology has thrilled, enthralled and spooked generations of children and adults. Like a wave from the Fairy Godmotherβs wand, Disney set designers were turned into Imagineers overnight. Nearly everything for Disneyland was coming out of an area at The Walt Disney Studios. One day Ryman saw Walt pacing the distance between the curbs and the studio building, and he asked him what he was doing. Walt said, βI am trying to work out the relationship of the curbings to the sidewalks to the width of the street.β Ryman realized that if the park was slow and you had wide streets, people would think the park was empty and not popular. On the other hand, if the park was busy and you had narrow sidewalks, then it would look crowded, and no one would come. The book starts with that fateful weekend when Herb Ryman, who worked for Disney from 1938-1946 as an artist and art director on various Disney animated features, including βDumboβ and βFantasia,β was called in by Walt to draw a detailed map of what Disneyland would look like. Topics range from the groundbreaking of Shanghai Disneyland, Pandora β The World of Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy β Mission: Breakout!, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge and future upcoming projects. Description: Weβve all read about the experts: the artists, the scientists, the engineers-that special group of people known as Imagineers for The Walt Disney Company. But who are they? How did they join the team? What is it like to spend a day in their shoes?
